Joseph Whang studied furniture design at Parsons The New School for Design. After completing his degree, Joseph continued his education in furniture making at BDDW. During his time at BDDW he expanded his knowledge of materials and honed his production skills. He now lives and works as a designer and consultant for various companies in New York. Over the course of the last year he has started his own design practice with a focus on making objects for the modern dweller. Joseph is particularly drawn to items that intrinsically offer a range of functionality which can be customized simply by application and how the user wishes to interact with the item. He believes strongly in the importance of reviving the makers community and works closely with skilled local makers to produce his limited edition pieces.
